Quick answer

The Vrakhir (sometimes written Vrakhiri) are the vampire clan laying siege to Vale Sangora in The Blood of Dawnwalker. Their leader Brencis commands the siege army and is the primary antagonist of the story. The Vrakhir's motivations are revealed across the prologue and the three boyar courts; their presence drives every major decision Coen makes.

Who is Brencis?

Brencis appears in the game in several forms:

  1. Indirect presence — early-game Vrakhir patrols, dialogue references, and boyar court briefings.
  2. Direct dialogue — the Brencis decision point, when Coen is offered a chance to join the Vrakhir.
  3. Combat — the Brencis fight, which is one of the Silver trophy prerequisites.

The Brencis decision point is one of the highest-leverage choices in the game. Accepting the offer unlocks the Night Sovereign and Crimson Pact endings; refusing keeps the human-aligned endings in reach.

What does the Vrakhir want?

The Vrakhir want the city. The exact political motivation — whether the goal is conquest, occupation, or annihilation — is revealed progressively through the boyar court storylines. Players who push all three courts get the most complete picture; players who skip courts will see only fragments.

What is clear from the start:

  • The Vrakhir have been planning this siege for some time. The walls are pre-damaged.
  • The Vrakhir are not interested in negotiation. They are not interested in trade. They are interested in taking the city.
  • Brencis has a personal interest in Coen specifically. The Dawnwalker state is biologically rare and may have value to the Vrakhir.

The boyar courts interpret the Vrakhir differently. Ambrus sees them as a military threat; Bakir sees them as a market disruption; Xanthe sees them as a political opportunity.

How do the Vrakhir interact with the boyars?

The Vrakhir are the external threat that the three boyars respond to in different ways:

  • Ambrus — favors building the walls higher, training more militia, and holding the line. Sees the Vrakhir as a conventional siege.
  • Bakir — favors a counterattack. Believes the city can break the siege if it strikes first.
  • Xanthe — favors negotiation. Believes some accommodation with the Vrakhir is possible and would save lives.

None of these interpretations is fully correct. The story rewards players who push all three courts and then make their own decision.

What is the Brencis decision point?

The Brencis decision point fires during the night-siege chapter. Brencis offers Coen a place among the Vrakhir, conditional on a loyalty check with one of the three boyars.

The choice has three branches:

  1. Accept the offer — Coen joins the Vrakhir. This unlocks the Night Sovereign and Crimson Pact endings. The Crimson Pact ending requires the loyalty check with one boyar to fail.
  2. Refuse the offer — Coen stays with the city defenders. This unlocks the Dawn Bringer, Last Light, and Twilight Walker endings.
  3. Walk away — Coen refuses but does not commit to the city defenders. This unlocks the Faded Memory and The Lost endings.

The decision is spoiler-layer; the dedicated Anachora page covers it in detail.

How do the Vrakhir shape the late game?

The Vrakhir become the direct antagonists in the late game. Brencis appears in person during the night-siege chapter, and the Brencis fight is a Silver trophy prerequisite. The fight itself is not the end of the game — the chapter-close decision matrix runs after the fight — but the fight is the test that determines which side Coen has chosen.

What is the relationship between the Vrakhir and Coen's dual-form mechanic?

The dual-form mechanic is tied to the Vrakhir lore in two ways:

  1. Corruption — the hidden Vampirism stat that tracks how close Coen is to becoming more vampire than human. Higher Corruption makes Coen more aligned with the Vrakhir and unlocks Vampirism ultimates at Corruption 15.
  2. The Dawnwalker label — Brencis refers to Coen as a "Dawnwalker" in some dialogue, framing the half-vampire state as a bridge between the human city and the Vrakhir clan.

The build calculator tracks Corruption across both forms and flags ending viability.
